The regulator plans to develop its scientific and analytical potential and implement solutions based on academic research in the financial sector.
What happened
On May 22, 2026, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan and the Tashkent branch of the American Webster University signed a memorandum of cooperation. The regulator’s press service reported this.
The parties agreed to combine the university’s academic base and CBU’s practical experience to conduct joint research in the financial and banking sectors. Under the agreement, scientific projects involving the regulator’s employees are planned. CBU and the university will exchange experience in working with information resources and test new research approaches.
The practical part of the partnership includes holding joint lectures, seminars, master classes, and scientific-practical conferences.
Series of academic partnerships
The agreement with Webster University became part of a series of academic partnerships by the regulator. The very next day, on May 23, 2026, CBU signed a similar memorandum with the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED).
The regulator is building ties with universities for the direct integration of education, applied research, and real banking practice.
Why it matters
The main stated goal of the signed documents is to strengthen the Central Bank’s scientific and analytical potential and develop human capital.
The regulator is forming a base to transition to the practice of making decisions in the financial and banking system based on applied scientific data.
What’s next
The parties have yet to translate the framework memoranda into concrete projects. Official reports do not yet specify which research areas will become priorities, whether a separate budget is provided for joint programs, and when the first lectures for financial sector employees will start.
