The Georgian financial group closed a deal to buy Uzbekistan’s largest classifieds platform. The bank plans to embed its credit and payment products into the marketplace, gaining direct access to five million users.
What happened
The deal officially closed on July 24, 2026, following approval by the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of Uzbekistan. The seller was OLX Group, a division of global technology investor Prosus.
To purchase the asset, TBC Bank Group created a joint venture with international holding Titan Investments. This partnership bought a 100% stake in OLX Uzbekistan. Within the joint venture, the Georgian group received 50% plus one share, while the remainder went to the fund. The company announced this in an official release. Legal registration of the share transfer will conclude shortly.
Country and market
OLX consistently ranks among the top ten most visited websites in Uzbekistan. The platform draws about 5 million active users a month and hosts 2 million active listings across real estate, automotive, goods, and services. The company estimates the service reaches nearly 17% of the country’s active internet audience.
For TBC Bank Group, whose shares trade on the London Stock Exchange, this is a logical expansion. The group already operates the digital bank TBC Uzbekistan in the country, and access to the largest classifieds audience provides a ready-made base to scale financial products.
Why it matters
OLX Uzbekistan will continue operating as an independent brand and open platform. The bank’s primary interest lies in infrastructure. TBC Uzbekistan plans to integrate its financial services into the platform. As TBC Uzbekistan CEO Nika Kurdiani noted, buying the asset takes the bank into a new segment and allows it to attract millions of new customers.
Financial players are changing tactics: instead of drawing users into banking apps, they buy established platforms and embed credit directly at the point of sale.
What’s next
The bank now has to technically merge its products with the OLX interface. If the integration succeeds, buyers and sellers on the platform will get seamless access to installment plans, secure transactions, and insurance products. For the local market, this means tighter competition: local payment services and fintechs will have to compete with an ecosystem that controls both the financial product and the marketplace itself.
