Raiffeisen Bank explores acquisition opportunities in Central Asia

According to spot.uz, citing Bloomberg, Austria’s Raiffeisen Bank International is looking at Central Asia as a new growth frontier and exploring potential acquisitions in the region.

RBI CEO Michael Höllerer is expected to present an updated strategy in the coming weeks. Kazakhstan and other countries across the region could be identified as new growth markets. According to anonymous sources, the bank is not yet in talks with specific acquisition targets.

Raiffeisen’s potential move into Central Asia could be backed by a €3.15 billion ($3.6 billion) payout resulting from an Austrian court default judgment regarding an asset transfer from Rasperia Trading, a company previously linked to businessman Oleg Deripaska.

In Uzbekistan, the bank has participated in the capital market sandbox since December 2025 as a foreign nominee holder for securities settlements. In Kazakhstan, Raiffeisen operates through a small leasing business.
