The premium banking market in Kazakhstan is gradually expanding beyond a narrow circle of ultra-rich clients. Amid deposit base growth, banks are making services for high-net-worth individuals (the HNWI segment) more accessible and structurally transparent.
What the market offers
According to a review by Ranking.kz, 11 Kazakhstani banks currently openly provide Private Banking services.
The minimum fund placement threshold to obtain VIP status starts at 15 million tenge or its foreign currency equivalent. Finteqstan previously reported that Home Credit Bank lowered the bar to this level with its HCB Prime offering. For other players, requirements can exceed 100 million tenge, while some banks do not publicly disclose exact figures.
Three levels of service
The standard Private Banking package in Kazakhstan has formed around three areas:
- Individual service. The client receives a 24/7 personal manager and access to closed VIP branches with an enhanced level of confidentiality.
- Finance and investments. Banks offer higher deposit rates, open individual credit lines, and issue premium cards, including metal ones. This also includes brokerage services and wealth management.
- Lifestyle and consulting. This is the non-financial part: tax and legal support, assistance with obtaining residency and citizenship abroad, business jet rentals, real estate purchases, and leisure organization.
What's next
Basic financial conditions like premium cards and higher rates are gradually becoming the standard for the HNWI segment. As financial offerings level out, the main competition between banks will likely unfold in the area of non-financial services and consulting quality.
