HUMO and Halyk Bank announce partnership in Kazakhstan

HUMO, Uzbekistan’s national payment system, is expanding into Kazakhstan. The operator announced a joint project with Halyk Bank, Kazakhstan’s largest lender.

A brief announcement appeared on the official website of Uzbekistan’s National Interbank Processing Center, which operates the HUMO system. The parties have not yet disclosed technical details, the commercial launch timeline, or the specific services that will become available to users.

Integrations between national payment systems and foreign banks typically begin with acquiring. This allows cardholders to pay at POS terminals and withdraw cash at ATMs across the border. For HUMO, this is a logical step in expanding its footprint. Finteqstan previously reported that the system had already begun building international channels when the uPay.net platform launched direct transfers from the US to Uzbek cards.

Direct integration between local payment systems allows Central Asian banks to keep cross-border settlements within the region without relying on global card networks. For Halyk Bank, which operates the largest financial infrastructure in Kazakhstan, this offers an opportunity to capture additional transaction flow from Uzbek citizens.
