59.7% of Uzbekistan's Population Holds Financial Accounts, Trailing Neighbors

According to the World Bank’s Global Findex 2025, 59.7% of Uzbekistan’s population aged 15 and older held a financial account in 2025, compared with 87% in Kazakhstan, 72.3% in Kyrgyzstan, and 54.5% in Tajikistan.

Kazakhstan leads the region in accounts enabled for digital transactions, with 78% of the population holding one. The figure stood at 59.1% in Kyrgyzstan, 43.8% in Uzbekistan, and 27.9% in Tajikistan.

High smartphone penetration does not always translate into equal adoption of financial services. In Uzbekistan, 70.2% of the population owns a smartphone, yet fewer people use financial accounts. Over the long term, financial account ownership in Uzbekistan expanded from 22.5% in 2011 to 59.7% in 2025.
