S&P Global Ratings has upgraded Kazakhstan’s sovereign credit rating from “BBB-” to “BBB” with a stable outlook. This is the first time the country has reached this level since 2016. The agency pointed to Kazakhstan’s resilient GDP growth prospects, as well as its substantial external and fiscal buffers. S&P projects Kazakhstan’s real GDP growth at 5.1% in 2026, slowing to 4–4.5% in 2027–2029.
