Kazakh bank profits drop 13.6% in first eight months of the year

Net profit at Kazakhstan’s banks reached 1.6 trillion tenge since the start of 2026, down 13.6% compared to the same period in 2025.

The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market published the figures as of September 1, 2026. Banking sector assets reached 75.7 trillion tenge, up 6.9% since the start of the year, driven by loan portfolio growth to 46.3 trillion tenge.

The tier 1 capital adequacy ratio stood at 19.5%, and total capital adequacy was 20.2%, exceeding statutory requirements. As of September 1, return on assets (ROA) was 3.5%, while return on equity (ROE) reached 22.9%.
