Kazakhstan banks' profit drops by 254 billion tenge in eight months

According to kz.kursiv.media, net profit of Kazakhstan’s second-tier banks reached 1.61 trillion tenge in January–August 2026, down 13.6% compared to the same period in 2025.

In the first eight months of 2025, banks generated 1.864 trillion tenge in net profit. The decline occurred despite a 16.1% increase in interest income, which grew from 6.05 trillion to 7.02 trillion tenge. However, interest expenses climbed faster, jumping 30.7% from 3.22 trillion to 4.21 trillion tenge.

A 13.2% drop in fee and commission income, from 677.1 billion to 587.7 billion tenge, also weighed on the bottom line. Net fee and commission income fell 25.5%, from 427.1 billion to 318.1 billion tenge. Meanwhile, provisioning expenses increased from 1.62 trillion to 1.73 trillion tenge.
