Kazakhstani currency exchange offices cut net sales of cash Chinese yuan to 303 million tenge in January–July 2026, down from 559.7 million tenge in the same period of 2025.
Net sales of the Chinese currency dropped by 45.9% year-on-year. Over two years, the figure shrank 2.4-fold from 727.6 million tenge recorded in January–July 2024.
The regional breakdown of net sales shifted noticeably. Almaty, which accounted for two-thirds of the national volume a year ago (361.5 million tenge), saw sales tumble 6.2-fold to 58.4 million tenge. The Karaganda region took the lead with a 78.8% increase to 104.4 million tenge. Net sales reached 51.1 million tenge in the Kostanay region and 49.1 million tenge in Astana. In the Zhetysu region, net sales turned negative at minus 54.8 million tenge.
