In its first two months of operation, Kazakhstan’s Interbank Mobile Payment System processed 20 million transactions totaling about 400 billion tenge, National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov said at the Central Asia Fintech Summit 2026.
Launched on July 19, the system combines phone-number interbank transfers and interbank QR codes. At the summit, the National Bank also signed a memorandum with VEON and KaR-Tel LLP to develop payment services, which includes exploring the companies’ receipt of a first-category payment organization license. The issuance of such licenses is scheduled to begin on October 21.
