According to kapital.kz, Kazakhstan’s parliament passed a bill across two readings ratifying an intergovernmental agreement with Qatar on cooperation in combating crime.
The agreement was signed in Doha on October 29, 2024. The document establishes mechanisms for interaction between the two countries’ competent authorities and outlines procedures for information exchange.
The parties will be able to share intelligence and verify information regarding wanted persons. Cooperation can begin before criminal proceedings are formally initiated. The agreement also provides for joint exercises, exchanges of professional experience and technology, and advanced training for specialists handling cybercrime and money laundering.
According to acting Minister of Internal Affairs Sanzhar Adilov, the parties may refuse assistance if a request could harm sovereignty or security, or if it contradicts domestic legislation. Kazakhstan has signed similar agreements with 23 states, including France, Italy, China, Turkey, and the UAE.
