As of August 1, 2026, the volume of loans issued by Kazakhstani banks to small and medium-sized businesses reached 12.4 trillion tenge, rising by 12% since the start of the year.
Small businesses accounted for 9.2 trillion tenge in loans (up 13%), while medium-sized enterprises received 3.2 trillion tenge (up 8.8%). Growth in SME lending is outpacing other segments: total lending across the economy rose by 5.2%, retail loans increased by 5.5%, and loans to large enterprises shrank by 5.9%.
The increase comes alongside support from banks and development institutions, including the Damu Entrepreneurship Development Fund and the Development Bank of Kazakhstan. Financial institutions continue rolling out dedicated digital tools for entrepreneurs, including mobile apps and dedicated business portals on their websites.
