Experts estimate that Kazakhstanis own 1 million crypto wallets worldwide, with most held on foreign platforms outside AIFC regulation.
Yerkegali Yedenbayev, Managing Director of the Authorisation and Financial Technologies Office at the AFSA, said the regulator aims to bring these clients into a licensed environment. Five international crypto platforms are currently undergoing licensing at the AIFC, including two among the world’s top ten crypto exchanges. On platforms already operating under AIFC regulation—Binance, Bybit, BigOne, and WhiteBit—transaction volume reached $10.5 billion last year, while the number of clients grew from 53,000 in 2023 to 270,000.
