Kyrgyz bank clients increasingly receive answers from automated systems instead of live operators, and programmers check code using neural networks. Yet, there are no mass layoffs due to automation in the country so far: the technology is embedding itself into existing processes and transforming them from within.
What happened
Artificial intelligence is gradually changing the employment structure in Kyrgyzstan. This is according to a study by the Tazabek publication, released on August 11, 2026. Journalists analyzed the impact of new technologies on the labor market and concluded that automation takes over specific functions, speeds up team work, and raises requirements for entry-level specialists.
Where hours of mechanical work were previously required, it is now enough to properly set a task for a machine and check the result. In call centers, AI handles the initial response to the client. In banks, algorithms conduct standard consultations. In accounting, data entry is automated, and in media and translations, machines create the first drafts of texts.
Numbers: the paradox of growth
State statistics do not yet separate the impact of artificial intelligence into a distinct category, but overall figures show growth in the industries where digital solutions are most actively implemented.
According to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, from 2021 to 2025, the number of workers in information and communication grew from 9,400 to 15,300 people (up 62%). In financial intermediation and insurance, employment increased from 24,800 to 35,200 people (up 42%).
Salaries grew in parallel. In the IT sector, the average salary increased almost 1.9 times to 81,500 soms; in the financial sector, it grew 2.4 times, reaching 85,700 soms. The market shows that technology implementation is currently accompanied by staff expansion and rising compensation, rather than mass dismissals.
Global context and local reality
International forecasts look harsher. The International Monetary Fund estimates that neural networks will affect nearly 40% of global employment. In advanced economies, this figure reaches 60%, while in low-income countries, the impact is estimated at 26%.
Representatives of the Ministry of Labor of Kyrgyzstan confirm that specific functions are shifting to algorithms, especially in services and information support. The ministry emphasizes that professions requiring complex context, responsibility, physical labor, or human interaction will remain relevant.
How specialist requirements are changing
AI exerts the most noticeable pressure on the IT sector. The availability of neural networks capable of writing simple code has lowered the entry barrier to the profession, but simultaneously sharply increased competition among junior developers.
According to local specialists, the career ladder within IT professions is shifting. Tasks previously performed by a junior developer are now partially automated. The market is starting to demand middle-level skills from beginners: the ability to understand architecture, evaluate machine code quality, and integrate it into a product.
Specialists using AI tools can perform the volume of work previously distributed among several employees. This shifts the hiring focus: companies need people capable of giving the system the right context.
Why it matters
For the Central Asian market, this means a fundamental change in the value of skills. Basic routine work is rapidly cheapening. Employers are willing to pay a premium for a person’s ability to formulate a task for a machine, fact-check, and implement the finished product into a business process.
The financial sector and IT companies will have to rebuild internal adaptation processes so employees master new tools faster than these tools devalue their current skills.

The need for retraining creates new opportunities for educational projects and HR services. The Ministry of Education and relevant agencies will need to promptly update professional standards based on business requests.
New roles are also starting to appear on the market. Companies are opening vacancies for machine learning engineers and specialists managing AI agents. Labor market adaptation is moving into practical terms: the teams that learn to delegate routine to algorithms faster than others will win.
