The Fintech Association of Uzbekistan (FAU) and Azerbaijani technology company Innovance signed a memorandum of cooperation. The parties agreed to develop cross-border projects and help local startups enter Central Asian and Caucasian markets.

What happened

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on August 25 at the Silk Road Finance and Technology forum. As the association reported, the agreement lays the groundwork for exchanging technology and industry expertise between the two countries.

The document outlines several areas of joint work. The parties plan to seek investment opportunities and help technology projects launch their solutions in regional markets. The agreement covers consulting support for early-stage projects and the development of cross-border initiatives.

The partnership’s structure is distinct. Uzbekistan is represented by a specialized national association (FAU) that consolidates local market interests, while Azerbaijan is represented by the technology company Innovance.

Country and market

A separate clause in the agreement highlights strengthening ties within the emerging regional Fintech Corridor. This initiative aims to create a unified communication and technology environment between Central Asia and the Caucasus. The corridor concept involves building a predictable foundation for innovation flow: a product tested in Tashkent should have a clear path to launch in Baku with the support of local partners.

For the Uzbek market, this continues a trend of outward expansion. Finteqstan previously reported that Uzbek crypto project Asterium is preparing to expand into the UAE. The new partnership shows that infrastructure for taking projects abroad is beginning to take shape at the industry association level.

Why it matters and what is next

The MOU establishes a baseline communication environment between the markets. Involving a technology company gives Uzbek startups potential access to Azerbaijani market expertise, while offering projects from Azerbaijan an entry point into Uzbekistan through the association’s resources.

The partnership between a national association and a technology company creates a channel for direct networking and partner searches in a new region.

The first joint startup programs or bilateral pilot projects supported by FAU and Innovance will serve as indicators of the agreement’s practical impact.

The memorandum establishes a baseline communication channel between the markets, giving Uzbek startups access to Azerbaijani expertise and offering Azerbaijani projects an entry point into Uzbekistan.
