Bank CenterCredit is the first Kazakh bank to integrate Click to Pay, a Visa technology that eliminates the need to enter card details for every online purchase. Instead of a card number, expiration date, and CVV, users only need a linked phone number and to select a card from a list. Here is how it works and where you can already pay.
What happened
The technology frees users from having to enter their card number, expiration date, and CVV code every time they shop online. To pay, you just enter a linked phone number and choose a card from the list.
You can already pay using the new method on the websites of major international brands: Marriott, Lufthansa, and Emirates. Existing cards are being connected to the system in stages, and users can manage settings through the bcc.kz mobile app.
Country and market
Click to Pay is an international EMVCo standard designed to simplify online payments. Globally, the technology is supported by Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Bank CenterCredit is one of Kazakhstan’s largest private banks, with assets exceeding 3 trillion tenge.
Why it matters
This is the first implementation of Click to Pay in the Kazakh market. The technology could boost online payment conversion rates, as users often abandon purchases due to the lengthy process of entering card details.
The main signal here is that Kazakh banks are starting to adopt international standards to improve the user experience in e-commerce.
What is next
It will be interesting to see how quickly other Kazakh banks integrate Click to Pay and whether the list of supported merchants expands among local online stores.
